Peer Coaching is a developing model using the context and skills of life coaching to support the ongoing personal, professional, and spiritual growth of clergy.
Participants gather for a day-long training in coaching, then are assigned to two pairings - once as a coach and once as a client. Each pair meets twice a month for 45 minutes, usually over the phone, for five months.
The agenda is set by the client. The coach is not the expert, but rather someone who supports the wisdom and capacity for effective action in the client. The peer coaching relationship helps the client clarify their goals and create specific action steps to move toward those goals.
Key Benefits:
- Professional and personal growth within the context of shared faith
- Fosters a culture of connection and support among all participants
- Learning and practicing new skills
- listening without giving advice
- creating powerful accountability
- practicing curiosity & powerful questions
This program was created jointly by David Rynick and Bishop Mark Beckwith. It is partially modeled on ongoing work David is doing with the House of Bishops as the lead trainer for their Peer Coaching program for new bishops.
